Well, last Sunday practice was quite a surprise. The head coach didn't show up on this day and his assistant & brother-n-law ran the practice. The assistant is a former D-1 player and he played at a major college. Anyway, I sat watching practice with interest because I wanted to see how the players would sub in/out. Knowing full well that the 2nd assistant is playing political games to get his son as the the second sub at point guard. Mind you now, I'm not worried about playing time, only that the best players are recognized at those positions, and not because someone wants their son to play. To make a long story short, my son takes over the point guard spot and as expected, plays better. But that's okay because I want him to learn the shooting guard spot too. It's just that he is as natural at point.
And as expected ,the 2nd assistant had a disgruntled look on his face. The team has a very good mix about it. There are about 6 boys who with the right combinations who will give other teams pure hell. The 1st assistant has really brought a lot of discipline to the team, but they still have a way to go on this matter. The other 5 boys could be mixed in with the better group and still get quality minutes. The last 5 boys actually would compete well if they were 3rd graders, but at least the team is strong enough to carry those players whose ability have not risen to the top just yet. Everybody has different points of maturity and growth.
