No More DaddyBall
Well, its been awhile since I last posted but within my absence, I have observed and learned a lot about the art of youth coaching. If you run into a team and the coach's son plays the same position your son does, run the other way; fast as you can. There are two possible options happening here. (1) The coach's son is really good and yours isn't, or (2) the coach's son isn't as good. What I have found in AAU basketball in the 14 & under ages is that the majority of these coaches have teams because their son didn't play much on a previous team and could not cut it. In my experiences, the latter is normally true. Get you a coach who truly respects the game and has no son on the team. Run from coaches who are trying a team with better players around their son. It won't work. That one little rusty spike will hold back the better athletes on the team.
