Feeling Weak At The Knees

Okay, I gotta admit that I am beginning to feel a little weak in the knees. And what do I mean by this statement? It means I feel that I am favoring letting my two boys play AAU ball this season, after deciding they were going to have more training in basketball and less tournament play. I guess there is no such thing as "best of both worlds." Because I really do think the tournament play and learning the game both have their place of importance. When learning these fundamentals, you have to be able to apply them in real game situations and especially in real-game speed. Well, the trick maybe is to find the closest thing to "best of both worlds." We attended a Houston Hoops workout this past weekend and I must admit I was really impressed with the professionalism within their workouts. Like most AAU teams, they want the best players on their squads. Well, the best players flock to the Houston Hoops. There was a Hoop graduate who attended Ole Miss. University. He was telling me how his SAT scores were subpar when he was coming out of high school. He told me the Hoops got tutors for him. That just blew me away when he told me this. I guess this si the difference between organizations with the experience in dealing with big-time basketball versus those who are out there focused on winning AAUnational championships in middle school.

Interesting enough, I saw another player and his dad at the same workouts Even though his kid played a lot on the team, the dad was telling me how the coach's son was not growing in skill, and it was just time to move on.
